Body as a Portal
Often, when we begin this apparent journey into being, which we already are, we are introduced to the teaching that we are not the body or the mind.
Instead, we are the essential, unchanging isness in which everything temporary appears and disappears. The body with its sensations, emotions, feelings, and pulsations arises in it. The mind with its thoughts, memories, and perceptions also comes and goes within it.
For many, this is a powerful and necessary insight. It loosens the grip of illusion and softens our attachments. Yet it is not the whole picture.
When the body and mind are gently set aside and we rest as pure isness, a deeper revelation unfolds. It becomes clear that there is no real separation. The body and mind are simply temporary expressions of this formless reality.
Nothing needs to be rejected or annihilated. The body and mind are also expressions of the same consciousness. Living from this understanding, we begin to see that every ripple and every whirlpool is nothing but the movement of that one indivisible ocean of presence.
Every emotion, every feeling, every thought is seen as a passing wave with no owner. There is no striving, not even for peace. All sense of doing and personal agendas fall away. The body becomes a beautiful doorway through which the unmanifest expresses itself.
One of my favorite practices for knowing body as a portal is Eckhart Tolle’s Inner Body Meditation. It gently brings you into contact with your essence, so you are no longer lost in the waves and ripples. Do check it out on youtube if it resonates with you,

We are already complete. What’s required is a mirror. A mirror that can help us see who we truly are.
Inspired by the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, Atmanda Krishna Menon, Rupert and my lived experience, I have created an app for self-inquiry.
Do try it out if you feel called to.
